A Documentation of budget hotels in Dubai, this body of work was first showcased at the UAE Pavilion’s first appearance at the Venice Biennale 2008. This project discusses the relationship between an unfamiliar space and myself. What defines a space and how come when labels are attached our understanding or perspectives of things change when at the end of the day a one star hotel room could very much represent someone’s bedroom and vice versa. My attempt is to see how these barriers can be broken down via integrating my family photographs into them. Has the room changed its identity? How is it looked at?  In them transcends a level of extreme intimacy almost making them in return less hospitable.
